nation's landfills. The plastic used in a typical ink jet or laser cartridge
takes 1,000 years to decompose. What happens to our
trash? According to the EPA, 67% of it is sent to landfills, 15% is incinerated
and less than 18% is recycled.
Of some 60 million inkjet cartridges used each year,
only about 10% are recycled. This means that 57 million cartridges get thrown
away each year and end up in landfill sites or are incinerated. Inkjet cartridges
will take about 1,000 years to decompose in landfill sites.
